The course, presented by <strong>Dr. Moath Al-Thaher<\/strong>, aimed to address the growing concern of health misinformation in the world today. The course also provided practical training on how to spot and debunk misinformation.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\">The rise of misinformation and disinformation in the health sector is a growing concern in 2023. Among them were <strong>Aina Crosas<\/strong>, a fact-checker at Verificat in Spain; <strong>Veronika Frankovsk\u00e1<\/strong>, a project manager at Demagog in Slovakia; <strong>Coreena Suares<\/strong>, an editor at NewsMeter in India; <strong>Lois Ugbede<\/strong>, a fact-checker at Dubawa in Nigeria; <strong>Isidora Osorio<\/strong>, a subeditor at FastCheckCL in Chile; <strong>Samedi Aguirre<\/strong>, an editor at Animal Pol\u00edtico in Mexico; <strong>Stephanie Tsang<\/strong>, an assistant professor at Hong Kong Baptist University in Hong Kong; <strong>Sara Monteiro<\/strong>, director and editor at Viral Check in Portugal; <strong>C\u00e9drick Irakoze<\/strong>, a senior editor at PesaCheck in Burundi; <strong>Hui-An Ho<\/strong>, head of international projects at Taiwan FactCheck in Taiwan; and <strong>Ankita Kulkarni<\/strong>, a fact-checker at Logically in the United kingdom.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In addition to the short-term training program, <strong>Fatabyyano<\/strong> also also provided a long-term training program. This series of educational sessions on fact-checking tools and skills was designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of various aspects of fact-checking, including effective reading of scientific articles, identifying credible scientific websites, and distinguishing opinion from facts. Participants were also introduced to data analysis in public health, including how to fact-check manipulation in health charts and statistics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The training further covered why people hold misinformed beliefs, and how to work with their underlying motivations to correct misinformation using the jiu-jitsu approach and practicing &#8220;empathetic refutation.&#8221; Participants learned how to infuse media literacy into fact-checks, reach a wider audience with truth, and build trust and confidence through their work.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">The training also provided practical tips and techniques to write health fact-check articles like a pro, spot suspicious herbs and supplements claims, gain public trust as a fact-checking organization, and deal with misinformation during big events such as pandemics.<\/p>\n<p style=\"direction: ltr;\"><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-68627 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/fatabyyano.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/draft-2.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"1014\" height=\"724\" srcset=\"https:\/\/fatabyyano.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/draft-2.png 1400w, https:\/\/fatabyyano.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/draft-2-300x214.png 300w, https:\/\/fatabyyano.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/draft-2-980x700.png 980w, https:\/\/fatabyyano.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/draft-2-18x12.png 18w, https:\/\/fatabyyano.net\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/draft-2-829x592.png 829w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1014px) 100vw, 1014px\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">In the long-term, this training on health fact-checking will help participants develop the skills necessary to conduct thorough fact-checking and provide accurate information to the public.
